Tabu Osusa, producer and Ketebul music legend from Nairobi, called me one day and told me that he had recorded new vocal tracks with Olith Ratego, who can also be heard on the Kenya Sessions. He said he didn’t really know what to do with this material and asked me to come round to his studio. We listened to the tracks and I said: ‘OK, let me try something with it’.
Olith and I called the project ‘Odd Okoddo’. The debut album came out in 2019. It got very good reviews (Bandcamp Weekly: ‘One of the top 10 records of the year’) and our booking agent was in the process of organising a tour with some big festivals. A few months later, the world was shut down and we didn’t play a single concert together outside of Kenya after the album release.
