My first solo release was a book publication. As a teenager, I was really into jazz, funk and Latin music – until I heard Goldie’s album ‘Timeless’ and Roni Size’s album ‘New Forms’ in my early 20s. That changed everything for me. I started transcribing all these beats and applying them to the acoustic drumset. This book contains the exercises I developed to play drum’n bass on a drumset. Very technical and a bit nerdy… The book comes with a CD containing all the audio examples.
The book got extremely good reviews, but sold poorly. However, due to the publication of the book, I received invitations to perform at World Drum Festivals. Fortunately, I soon realised that this was not what I was looking for.
