The Kenya Sessions
The album that definitely changed my life. I travelled to East Africa for the first time in 2008 to create the soundtrack for the choreographer Angela Guerreiro. The project took me to Addis and Nairobi. In Nairobi, I met Johannes Hossfeld – the former director of the Goethe-Institut Kenya. He invited me to come back a year later to work on recordings with musicians from Nyanza – the region around Lake Victoria – and from the coastal region. These experiences blew me away. For example, I’ll never forget the day I met and recorded with Ogoya Nengo. The album received very positive reviews and won an award. I continued to work with Kenyan artists and today I am more or less based in Nairobi.
