When I was still working on ‘The Kenya Sessions’, I met Stefan Schneider, who was playing with ‘To Roccoco Rot’ at the time. Stefan has always been interested in the different musical styles of the African continent. We travelled to a village near Malindi (Kenya) in 2012 to work on recordings with a group of musicians I had met during ‘The Kenya Sessions’ recordings. I remember that I immediately got severe food poisoning a few hours after arriving. Nevertheless, we were able to start recording 2 days later than originally planned. Stefan and I decided not to play any overdubs over the recordings. The album was released on Honest Jons Records.

My favourite track:
Mafunzo
